NYT suggested when the war in Ukraine would end
The inauguration of the newly elected US President Donald Trump will take place on January 20, 2025. At the same time, negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine would take place even in case of different results of the American elections.
This is reported by The New York Times.
Ending the war in Ukraine
The article states that 2025 would be the year of peace negotiations, regardless of who would win the US presidential election.
According to NYT columnist Julian Barnes, the main reason for this is the lack of troops on both sides and the increasing difficulties in mobilizing additional reserves. At the same time, he pointed to four factors that will influence the course of events:
• US military support — if Trump stops helping Ukraine, the EU will not be able to support Kyiv on its own, which will leave Ukraine in a weak position;
• the issue of occupied territories — if Ukraine retains part of the Kursk region, the Russian Federation may return part of Ukrainian lands in exchange;
• NATO membership is no longer discussed — Ukraine may become a neutral state, and Trump will try to force Putin to integrate Kyiv into the EU;
• guarantees for Ukraine — both Ukraine and the US fear that Putin will use the truce and attack again in a few years, so Trump will be forced to think about how to protect Ukraine, so as not to look weak.
It should be recalled that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive expanded access to Starlink terminals. This is a more secure satellite network called Starshield.
At the same time, fierce fighting continues in the Pokrovsk direction. Russian troops have advanced to a distance of 6-10 kilometers from the city.
