Ukrainian developers have transformed a commercial ultralight aircraft into a long-range lethal drone. It has been used as a weapon since the beginning of this year.

This was reported by Bild on Thursday, December 26.

Ukraine has developed a new drone

This is the largest Ukrainian kamikaze drone, created on the basis of the ultralight A-22 Foxbat aircraft manufactured by the Ukrainian company "Aeroprakt". Since the beginning of 2024, this aircraft has been used as a weapon with a range of 1,200 km and a payload of up to 200 kg of explosives.

The development has unique features that make it elusive for Russian air defense:

•    the compact engine generates a temperature of no higher than 100℃, making it almost invisible to heat-seeking anti-aircraft missiles;
•    the aircraft is covered with a special stealth film, which reduces the drone's inconspicuous radar profile.

The A-22 already has a number of successful operations to its credit. Among them is a strike on a drone factory in Tatarstan in April 2024 and an explosion at the headquarters of the special police forces in Grozny in December 2024.

Previously, we wrote that the Ukrainian government has made an important decision that involves permanent financing for the purchase of domestic unmanned systems and electronic warfare.

It should be reminded, that analysts from the Institute for the Study of War spoke about innovative attack methods of the Ukrainian Armed Forces against the occupiers with the use of drones and robots.
