Ukraine returns bodies of fallen defenders home
The Coordination Center for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that the bodies of 503 fallen Ukrainian soldiers were returned to the territory controlled by Ukraine as a result of repatriation activities. Most of these people were killed in the Donetsk axis.
This was reported on the Telegram page of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on Friday, December 20.
Ukraine returns bodies of fallen soldiers
Among the returned fallen defenders of Ukraine:
- 403 from the Donetsk axis;
- 12 from the Luhansk axis;
- 57 from the Zaporizhzhya axis;
- 31 dead were returned from morgues in the Russian Federation.
The Headquaters reported that the fallen defenders of Ukraine were returned as a result of the joint work of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Central Department of Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Joint Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and other structures of the Security and Defense Sector of Ukraine.
"We express our gratitude for the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross," the statement reads.
The organizers of the repatriation expressed special gratitude to the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who transported the repatriated fallen Heroes to designated state specialized institutions, organized the transfer of the dead to representatives of law enforcement agencies and forensic medical examination.
"Together with the expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the victims will be identified as soon as possible," the Headquarter noted.
Earlier, we wrote that Ukraine managed to return the bodies of 502 fallen Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen to the territory under its control. Their identities will be established as soon as possible.
We would like to remind you that another exchange of dead took place on November 8 this year. Back then, the bodies of 563 fallen soldiers were returned to Ukraine.
