Russia tortures and condemns marines — details revealed
Anastasiia Savova, head of the Association "Strength of the Marine Corps", said that more than 1,300 Ukrainian marines are currently held captive in Russia. The exact number of prisoners, missing and dead cannot be established, as Russia conceals this data.
Anastasiia Savova said this at a briefing, according to a Novyny.LIVE correspondent.
Russians torture Ukrainian prisoners
According to Savova, the situation with the prisoners is catastrophic. A significant number of Ukrainian marines held in Russian captivity have suffered serious health problems due to inhumane conditions of detention. Every second prisoner is seriously ill. In addition, more than 50 released soldiers returned home with signs of torture.
Anastasiia Savova noted that not only military officers and soldiers are being held captive. There are also doctors and even musicians among the prisoners. Russian courts have handed down harsh sentences to Ukrainian prisoners of war: more than 100 marines have been convicted and sentenced to between 20 and 30 years in prison, and some have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The exact number of Ukrainian servicemen who are in Russian captivity is currently unknown. Russia does not provide accurate data and conceals their whereabouts.
As a reminder, a Ukrainian defender released from captivity told how the Russians treated them in captivity.
Also recently, Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said that a preliminary agreement had been reached with Russia on the exchange of prisoners.
