In late December 2024, a Ukrainian F-16 fighter pilot shot down a record number of missiles during a massive enemy attack. For the first time in history, six targets were destroyed in one combat flight.

This was reported by the Air Force press service on Facebook.

Shooting down a record number of missiles

A Ukrainian pilot said that on the morning of December 13, when Russia launched nearly 200 drones and more than 90 missiles at Ukraine, he managed to destroy six missiles during a combat flight in an F-16 fighter jet.

The Air Force noted that missiles are the main target of the Ukrainian fighter jet. However, intercepting them is not an easy task for a pilot.

"Based on the results of objective control, we have one hundred percent confirmation of the fact that for the first time in history, an American F-16 fighter jet shoots down six cruise missiles in an anti-aircraft battle, two of them with an aircraft gun. And it was done by a Ukrainian!" the press service noted.

This record was also a pleasant surprise for the Americans who trained Ukrainian pilots on these planes.

In 2025, Norway will organize training for Ukrainian Defense Forces pilots and technicians on American F-16 fighters in Portugal.

The US State Department approved the sale of F-16 aircraft maintenance services to Ukraine worth $266.4 million.
