Germany hands over first of promised RCH 155 howitzers to Ukraine
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced the handover of the first RCH 155 wheeled howitzer to Ukraine. In total, the country has promised to provide 54 units of this equipment.
This was reported by Welt on Monday, January 13.
Handover of RCH 155 howitzer
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany Oleksii Makeiev received the first of 54 wheeled howitzers to be delivered to Ukraine.
"Ukraine can count on us, and this is a signal. And Germany is ready to take responsibility in Europe," Pistorius claimed.
It is known that six howitzers will remain in the country for training of the Ukrainian military personnel.
The publication notes that the transfer of military equipment took place in the city of Kassel, where the KNDS manufacturer produces this weapon system.
What is known about the howitzer
RCH 155 is a 155 mm gun on an armored wheeled vehicle with four axles. The gun turret can be remotely controlled, which allows it to be operated from the outside. The crew consists of two people.
As a reminder, the German defence concern Rheinmetall has handed over the latest KF41 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle to Ukraine.
Also at the end of 2024, Germany provided Ukraine with a new military assistance package. It included, among other things, Air Defence Systems.
