On Monday, October 21, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was once again on the verge of blackout. Due to Russian shelling, one of the power lines connecting the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant with the Ukrainian power system was disconnected.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy via Telegram on Monday, October 21.

Shelling of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

According to the Ministry, at 12:18, due to enemy shelling, one of the two power lines connecting the temporarily occupied nuclear power plant with the unified power system of Ukraine was disconnected.

"Currently, the plant is powered by only one power line. Provision of the external power supply to the plant, which is necessary for its safe operation, is again under threat," the message says.

Thus, in case of the station being disconnected from external power, a complete blackout will occur, which poses a threat to radiation safety.

As soon as the security situation allows, the power engineers will do everything possible to restore power to the ZNPP. However, only the return of Ukraine's control over the station can guarantee safe operation.

As a reminder, on October 1, Russian troops attacked the ZNPP substation, resulting in a power outage.

And the very next day, "Ukrenergo" repair teams restored power to the nuclear power plant.
