Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Rob Bauer claimed that if Russia did not possess nuclear weapons, the Alliance could deploy troops on the territory of Ukraine. According to him, the country is strategically important for NATO.

Rob Bauer stated this during the Prague Defense Summit, which took place on November 8-10.

"I am absolutely sure that if the Russians did not have nuclear weapons, we would be in Ukraine and drive them out. But they have nuclear weapons," Bauer said.

According to him, this is the difference between the wars in Ukraine and Afghanistan.

Bauer does not rule out the possibility of involving NATO troops in a war against Russia, but notes that in this case NATO "takes a risk as an Alliance", which makes this issue purely political.

"Afterward, everyone says that the red line was not a red line, so why didn't we give those weapons earlier? But if you look at the problem in the future when the question is raised, and you don't necessarily understand the consequences then it's much more complicated," the admiral emphasized.

It should be recalled, that on November 7, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin reacted to Ukraine's plans to join NATO at the Valdai Discussion Club.

Previously, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on Alliance partners to strengthen support for Ukraine.
