British Intelligence explains how Ukrainian Forces' Vovchansk success will affect occupiers
The success of Ukrainian Forces in Vovchansk, Kharkiv region, will limit the Russian advance. In late September, Ukrainian troops took control of a chemical plant.
This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense on Tuesday, October 1, citing intelligence data.
Ukrainian Armed Forces may launch a counteroffensive
British intelligence reports that the chemical plant in Vovchansk was a Russian stronghold that allowed for tactical operations on the Vovcha River.
"Its loss will likely limit the capabilities of the Russian Ground Forces to advance in the Kharkiv region. It is quite possible that Ukrainian control over the plant will facilitate further counter-offensives in the northern part of the city to push the Russian armed forces back to the Ukrainian-Russian border," the report states.
It is emphasized that the battle for Vovchansk has been ongoing since May 2024, when the Russians began an offensive operation in the Kharkiv region to create a buffer zone to deter and mitigate any Ukrainian attacks in the Belgorod area.
"This led to Vovchansk, located five kilometers south of the Ukrainian-Russian border, becoming a city of fierce fighting, with both sides attempting to drive each other out of the area," the British Ministry of Defense added.
They noted that Russia has redeployed forces from the Vovchansk area to support operations in the Kursk region, where Ukraine took control of part of the territory in August 2024.
"This has reduced the Russians' capabilities in the Vovchansk area," the intelligence officials concluded.
Earlier we reported that the loss of the assembly plant in Vovchansk, Kharkiv region, was a serious blow to the image of the Russian army. This particular enterprise is now the number one target of the occupiers.
The Main Intelligence Doctorate explained that control over this enterprise would improve the logistics of the Defense forces and create a foothold for further offensive and liberation of Vovchansk.
