The participation of North Korean soldiers in the war in Ukraine will have a limited impact. In fact, the DPRK military is more interested in training and testing its own equipment, and this is a common thing for North Korea.
These assumptions were shared by American political analyst Jason Jay Smart in the interview for Novyny.LIVE.
Why are the North Korean troops in Russia?
"They sent, according to current estimates, about 10,000 North Koreans. Russia is losing about 1,000 soldiers a day just to capture some towns in eastern Ukraine. So even if 10,000 North Koreans hold out for a week and a half, it won't change the war", noted the expert.
According to Smart, the main goal is to gain combat experience and new knowledge in drone and missile warfare.
"But we also know that they, like the Iranians, have teams that go to Russia to study how their missiles work, what happens to them, and take notes to improve their missile technology," he explained.
The political scientist doubts that the North Korean dictator will risk the stability of his regime through active participation in the war. Therefore, it is unlikely that he will send more troops to Russia.
"He's always trying to provoke South Korea and others. For example, one more time he'll test a missile right over South Korea and accidentally blow something up there. But North Korea can't defend itself because its soldiers are in Ukraine, and then its regime falls", Smart said.
Earlier NATO confirmed for the first time that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea provided Russia with its military for the war against Ukraine. These fighters are already in Kurshchyna.
It should also be noted that the Pentagon announced that there will be no new restrictions on the use of US weapons for Ukraine if North Korean forces enter the battle.
