"Thanks to real-time information exchange with an intelligence organization of a friendly country, we have confirmed the capture of a wounded North Korean soldier and plan to carefully study further developments," the National Intelligence Service said in a statement.

The confirmation came after a Ukrainian military portal reported on December 26 that Ukrainian soldiers had captured a soldier during operations in the Kursk region.

If officially confirmed, this will be the first time that Ukraine has captured a North Korean soldier who took part in combat.

According to South Korean officials, about 11,000 North Korean troops have been sent to Russia.

As a reminder, North Korean troops are suffering significant losses in the Kursk region, where Russia is using them to fight against Ukraine.

Earlier, the Defense Forces found a notebook from a liquidated North Korean special forces officer in the Kursk region. It contained instructions for "hunting" Ukrainian drones.
