The 961st day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine is now underway. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi shared the most difficult moment at the beginning of the war.

The video was published by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Friday, October 11.

The most difficult moment at the beginning of the Russian invasion

Syrskyi said that the most difficult moment for Ukraine at the beginning of the Russian invasion was the battle for Moshchun near Kyiv.

"This was the moment when Moshchun was effectively occupied by Russian paratrooper and marine units. On the left bank of the Desna River, around 200 pieces of enemy equipment were ready to cross, and soon they began advancing toward Hostomel. That moment was probably the most difficult one I can recall," the Commander-in-Chief said.

According to him, at that time, the country's leadership was focused on how to hold the capital, and the realization that we would win came a bit later. It occurred during the battles on the Boryspil highway, when the Defense Forces successfully broke through the column of the Russian Federation's 6th Tank Regiment.

Syrskyi said that the enemy lost about 30 pieces of equipment, 17-18 were completely destroyed and damaged.

Battle for Moshchun

The Battle of Moshchun was one of the fiercest battles during the defense of Kyiv, which lasted from February 27 to March 21, 2022.

Moshchun was a strategically important position for the occupiers, as it was the only way to reach Kyiv. That is why the enemy threw well-trained soldiers and a significant amount of equipment into this village.

However, the Defense Forces still managed to recapture the lost positions, blocked Moshchun from two sides and began shelling the crossing points and concentrations of Russian troops with heavy artillery. The Ukrainian army pushed Russian troops to the Irpin River.

On March 21, the Defense Forces completely liberated the village from the occupiers.

Previously, Volodymyr Dehtiarov, a spokesman for the Charter Brigade's public relations service, said that the Russians have only two effective tactics left at the front: column breakthroughs or small assault groups.

Earlier, Syrskyi said that the Russian military command had deployed about 50 thousand troops to the Kursk region
