Russia is actively trying to cut off Ukrainian land lines of communication in the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. Such actions may significantly complicate the supply of Ukrainian troops in the region, which is likely to force them to retreat in the coming months.

This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Invaders may force Ukrainian Armed Forces to withdraw from Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad

Analysts of the Institute for the Study of War explain that the new highways T-0405 and T-0406, which provide a connection between the east and west, are key to holding the positions of Ukrainian forces.

The advance of Russian troops to block these routes could affect Ukraine's ability to redeploy troops and provide logistical support for defense.

In addition, Moscow may hope to push deeper into the region to create conditions for Ukrainian forces to withdraw to the north. This could facilitate further Russian advance toward the administrative border between Donetsk and Dnipropetrovs'k regions.

The Russian military command probably hopes to avoid large-scale urban battles in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. The blocking of key supply routes creates preconditions for the retreat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, allowing Russia to minimize losses in difficult combat conditions.

As a reminder, coking coal production at one of the most important mines near Pokrovsk has been stopped.

The Financial Times stated that Russia has changed its strategy near Pokrovsk and has new plans.
