Biden approves delivery of another batch of mines to Ukraine
President Joe Biden has authorized the provision of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine. This is another part of the urgent actions to help Ukraine, which the US President spoke about.
This was reported by The Washington Post.
Why Biden decided to provide urgent assistance to Ukraine
According to the newspaper, U.S. officials said that this would strengthen Kyiv's defense against a Russian offensive. Although, according to them, this has already drawn criticism from arms control groups.
The publication recalls that this permission came almost immediately after the authorization to strike with long-range US weapons on Russian territory.
Earlier it was reported that Biden officially authorized Ukraine to strike at Russian territory using long-range weapons. Such actions could force Russia to enter into peace talks.
This was reported by US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols in a commentary for O Globo.
As a reminder, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reacted negatively to the US authorization for Ukraine to strike at Russian territory. He stated that such a decision would provoke further escalation of tensions around the conflict.
At the same time, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda called the decision a decisive moment in the fight against the aggressor.
