The number of North Korean troops in the Kursk region of Russia is about 10 thousand. At the same time, the Pentagon has no information on whether the DPRK military took part in the fighting.

This was stated by US Defense Department spokesman Major General Patrick Ryder at a briefing.

Will the DPRK's Troops Change the Situation in Kursk Oblast?

The Pentagon emphasized that the deployment of North Korean troops in the Kursk region could affect the situation at the front.

"The deployment of these additional forces in Kursk, of course, in terms of combat capability, could be very important, but a lot will depend on how these forces are used, how they are integrated into Russian command and control," Ryder said.

At the same time, the US Defense Department spokesman emphasized that the Pentagon cannot confirm the participation of DPRK troops in combat operations.

"But if these troops take part in combat operations against Ukraine, they will become legitimate military targets," he concluded.

Earlier, the head of the Center for Political Analysis, Andrii Kovalenko, said that DPRK troops had already come under fire in the Kursk region.

Meanwhile, South Korea announced a possible increase in support for Ukraine amid reports of DPRK troops being deployed to the Ukrainian border.
