Numerous executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian invaders go unpunished by their commanders. Most likely, the command of the occupiers approves of such actions.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War.

Russians are not punished for executions

"Ukrainian officials continue to report executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia," the Institute's analysts said.

Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office announced on November 9 that it is investigating a video showing Russian troops executing a captured and unarmed Ukrainian soldier. This is a violation of the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War.

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said he had sent a letter to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross reporting the war crime.

"The Institute for the Study of War has repeatedly reported on earlier videos and reports documenting the executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) by Russian forces. ISW has highlighted a broader trend of abuse against Ukrainian POWs by Russian soldiers across various front lines", ISW said in a statement.

Analysts believe that such actions are not only tolerated by Russian commanders, but also approved by them.

Earlier, we wrote that the Russian invaders had once again shot a Ukrainian soldier and released the video. Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the execution of the soldier.

In addition, law enforcement officers are currently investigating 49 criminal proceedings over the killing of prisoners of war by Russians.
