Russia is "overwhelming with cannon fodder" in Pokrovsk direction

Russian troops are increasing pressure south of Pokrovsk in an attempt to achieve tactical success and secure favorable positions for a further offensive. They regularly deploy more and more troops, thereby weakening their potential for future battles.

This was reported by analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Situation in the Pokrovsk sector

According to geolocation footage released on December 10, the occupiers advanced in the western part of Novyi Trud and along the E50 highway, reducing the distance to Pokrovsk to six kilometers.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are fighting hard to hold back the enemy, but the situation is getting more complicated. Colonel Nazar Voloshyn, spokesman for the Khortytsia military grouping, said that Russian units attacked Ukrainian fortifications south of Novotroitske and on the outskirts of Shevchenko. As a result of the shelling, Ukrainian forces lost two positions but are actively working to regain them.

The commander of one of the Ukrainian battalions characterized the situation as "critical", emphasizing the enemy's significant advantage in artillery and personnel.

Monthly reinforcements of 200 people for each Russian battalion formation allow the enemy to carry out up to 30 attacks per day.

It will be harder for Russia to conduct offensive operations in the future

At the same time, the cost of such offensives for Russian troops remains high. Over the past two weeks alone, the occupiers have lost nearly 3,000 troops in the Pokrovsk direction. ISW experts note that although Russian forces can continue the offensive, significant losses of personnel and equipment limit their ability to conduct large-scale operations in the future.

As a reminder, ISW experts have recently stated that Russia will not stop its offensive on Donetsk, even despite the heavy losses that it has suffered.
