Syrskyi's summary of Russian losses in the Kursk operation
Defense forces have destroyed thousands of Russian soldiers and equipment in the Kursk region over three months. Currently, Russia has about 45 thousand troops concentrated there. It is trying to increase their number.
This was reported by the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Wednesday, November 6.
Results of the operation in Kursk region
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that due to the enemy's plans to attack in the Sumy direction from the Kursk region, in order to create a "buffer zone", it was decided to conduct a preemptive offensive.
"In almost three months of the operation, as of November 5, 2024, the enemy's losses in the Kursk sector amounted to 20842 people, including 7905 killed, 12220 wounded, and 717 captured," Syrskyi said.
He added that 1101 units of weapons and military equipment of the Russian army were destroyed during this time.
"Among them were 54 tanks, 276 armored combat vehicles, 107 cannons and mortars, 5 MLRS and 659 vehicles," the Commander-in-Chief noted.
Syrskyi emphasized that Russia has currently concentrated approximately 45 thousand troops in the Kursk region, aiming to increase their numbers to pressure the Ukrainian Armed Forces into withdrawing from the area.
"Russia's own troops are not enough in this area, so they are trying to attract troops from North Korea," Syrsky emphasized.
As a reminder, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov confirmed that the Defense Forces clashed with North Korean troops on the battlefield but these were "small clashes".
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the first clash and emphasized that the participation of DPRK soldiers in the war opens a new page of instability in the international arena.
Earlier, Zelenskyy said that the number of North Korean troops in the Kursk region of Russia is about 11 thousand.
