Missing persons in Ukraine

"Almost 54,000 people in Ukraine are considered missing. This list includes both civilians, including children, and military personnel,", said the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Tymchenko said that since September 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers has entrusted the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the authority to coordinate the search for persons missing under special circumstances.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs also created the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances and established its offices in the regions.

Where to contact relatives of missing persons

The lawyers said that relatives of a serviceman who went missing during the fighting should file a search warrant with the National Police.

Then, having received an extract from the Unified Register of Missing Persons, they can apply to the military unit where the serviceman served.

As a reminder, we recently wrote that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has amended the procedure for paying one-time financial assistance to the families of servicemen declared dead or missing. Relatives can exercise the right to receive payments for three years.

We also wrote about the benefits available to families of missing soldiers. The full list can be found here.
