Number of drones and missiles downed this morning — Air Force

On the night of December 20, 2024, Russia launched a missile and drone strike against Ukraine. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine provided details about the repulsion of the enemy attack and the types of air targets that Russia used to attack Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

What kind of missiles and drones Russia attacked Ukraine with on December 20

The enemy fired five Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles at Kyiv. In addition, X-59/69 guided missiles were used, as well as 65 Shahed attack drones and other types of drones. The launch was carried out from the territory of Rostov, Kursk, Bryansk, Voronezh regions, as well as from other regions of Russia.

Thanks to the efforts of the Ukrainian Air Force and Defense Forces, were destroyed:

• 40 attack drones in eight regions, including Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia;
• five Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles aimed at Kyiv were also successfully shot down;
• 20 enemy imitator drones were lost locally without causing any damage due to active counteraction.

Private homes, apartment buildings, medical facilities, warehouses and farms in Dnipropetrovs'k, Sumy, Kyiv and Kharkiv regions were hit.

As a reminder, in Kyiv, fragments of missiles and drones fell in several districts of the capital, causing serious damage. Photos and videos from the scene have been posted. In addition, some schools, kindergartens and hundreds of houses in the Holosiivskyi district were left without heat supply due to damage to the heating network. Unfortunately, one person was killed and seven people were hospitalized as a result of the enemy attack in Kyiv.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned the number of air defense systems that Ukraine lacks to fully protect its skies. Yesterday, Denmark announced the allocation of funds to strengthen Ukraine's air defense capabilities.
