The Kursk operation — how the AFU prepared the offensive
On August 6, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an offensive in the Kursk region of Russia. A great deal of effort was put into the operation.
This is described in the TSN documentary.
Kursk offensive operation
Commander of the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, Dmytro Voloshyn, highlighted the significant efforts made in executing this operation. A considerable number of personnel underwent training at various Armed Forces of Ukraine centers, encompassing both ground and air assault forces.
"We focused on collective preparation: conducting raid actions, offensive assault operations, and securing areas and positions. We placed particular emphasis on training company commanders," Voloshyn explained.
Meanwhile, Commander of the 80th Air Assault Brigade, Pavlo Rozlach, stressed that an attack requires thorough preparation.
"You cannot just show up and launch an assault. Preliminary measures are crucial: setting up reconnaissance and observation systems, preparing UAV launch sites, fire positions, and ensuring proper camouflage," he noted.
According to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were considering various scenarios.
"We had both minimum and maximum tasks. Of course, we took into account the experience of the Kharkiv operation, and this is not an exaggeration. And the terrain was quite similar," he added.
As a reminder, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to expel Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region by January 20. Currently, the defenders are repelling all enemy attacks in this area.
In addition, Putin appointed an interim governor of the Kursk region.
