Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin claimed that since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the losses of the occupiers have reached hundreds of thousands of people. Now Russia is forced to "reactivate" military hardware from the Second World War.

Austin said this during a press conference in Kyiv on Monday, October 21.

Russia's losses in the war

Austin noted that since February 2022, Russian troops have lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers. And in the first year of the full-scale invasion alone, the total losses were greater than all of Russia's losses by the end of World War II.

"And Russia was so forced to open all of its arsenals, all of its storage facilities, that now it is attacking Ukraine with tanks from the Second World War," Austin said.

The head of the US Department of Defense noted that Russia is allocating more than $200 billion to continue the war and even more to somehow cover these economic costs.

It should be recalled that Austin made a loud statement about the war in Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv. He emphasized that the future of Europe, NATO and the United States is being decided now.

The head of the Pentagon also announced new military aid to Ukraine worth $400 million.
